THE POWER OF ONE MAN - A DECISION by Olumadewa Adebusuyi olutayo

“He who wants to change the world must show it with his act and not words”
There is always a personality behind every good or bad cause. Marshal of France, Ferdinand Foch said, “You think out of every possible development and decide on the way to deal with the situation created. When one of these developments occurs, you put your plans in operation, and everyone says “what a genius ….whereas the credit is really due to the labor of preparation”. Sometimes it may take time for it to be revealed, but the truth is nothing is to be left for chance. For years, the 4-minute mile was considered not merely unreachable but, according to physiologists of the time, dangerous to the health of any athlete who attempted to reach it. For Roger Bannister, it was vindication. When he crossed the finish line with a time of 3 minutes 59.4 seconds, he broke through a psychological barrier as well. After Roger Bannister broke the four minutes mile, within one year, thirty seven others broke it; within two years, three hundred had broken it. What if Roger Bannister had decided to play safe and followed what was said? This is an indication that there is a place for you only if you decide to be the answer. Thinking high and acting high radiates. What about Usain Bolts.. From 3min59.4 sec to 9.58 seconds. This is how fast things can change but someone has to lead at first

Admiral Ernst said,” Machines are nothing without men”. Remember every great cause is towards the development and betterment of humanity. It takes a man with a sense of identity to make this happen. Collin Powell said, “As we climbed on the backs of others, so must we allow our backs to be used for others to go higher than we have.” We must not allow ourselves to be defeated. If you cannot be defeated inside, defeat is not possible unto you. Sometimes, we underestimate our ability towards achieving greatness. Note that you will not know how powerful you are until you do it.

Some years ago Louis Victor Eytinge was given a life sentence in the Arizona penitentiary. At the time of his imprisonment, he was an all round "bad man," according to his own admissions. In addition, it was believed that he would die of tuberculosis within a year. Eytinge had reasons to feel discouraged, if anyone ever had. Public feelings against him were intense and he did not have a single friend in the world who came forth to offer him encouragement or help. Then something happened in his own mind that gave him back his health, put the dreaded "white plague" to rout and finally unlocked the prison gates and gave him his freedom. What was that "something"? Just this: He made up his mind to whip the white plague and regain his health by his decision. In less than a year from the time the decision was made, he had won. Then he extended that decision by making up his mind to gain his freedom. Soon the prison walls melted from around him. No undesirable environment is strong enough to hold a man or woman, who understands how powerful a decision can be in the world. Such a person can throw off the shackles of poverty; destroy the most deadly disease germs; rise from a lowly station in life to power and plenty. All great leaders based their leadership upon a decision to make the world better than they met it.

Followers will be willing when they know that their leader is capable of making decisions and has courage to back up that purpose with action. Even a balky horse knows when a rider with a definite aim takes hold of the reins and yields to that rider. When a man with decision walks through a crowd, everybody stands aside and makes way for him. But if the man hesitates and shows by his actions that he is not sure of the way to go, the crowd will step all over his toes and refuse to budge an inch out of his way. Children sense very quickly the wavering attitude of their parents and take advantage of that attitude quite freely. It is the same all through life: men with a decision commands respect and attention at all times.
Louis Victor Eytinge’s story shows how a man can free himself if he decides to do so. This is called true liberation. When you are free from yourself, it helps you abandon the bird eye look and see the pain that many are going through. Only then will you become the angel they have been dreaming about.
It is time. What we do echoes from now till eternity.
