2013 Graduate of the FIFA/CIES/NMMU Sports Management Course Toyin Ibitoye won the prestigious Nigeria Football Pitch Award for the best television football journalist in Nigeria.
Ibitoye's unique presentation style, unparalleled attention to detail and maturely unbiased approach to issues about Nigerian football put him head and shoulders above his contemporaries.
According to the awards organisers, Sports Tonite, the programme that Ibitoye produces and anchors on Channels Television every weeknight has become a reference point for all those interested in sport and football development in Nigeria.
Ibitoye is a graduate of Agricultural Extension Science from the University of Ibadan. He is married and is very passionate about Nigerian sports. He loves writing and analyzing football, travelling and watching real life stories depicted in movies.
‘’As the Department of Human Movement Science at NMMU, we are exceptionally proud of the achievement of our FIFA/CIES/NMMU graduate,” said lecturer Vernon Oosthuizen. “Ibitoye was a committed, hardworking, respected and well-liked student in the class and is indicative of the quality of student enrolling for this course.
‘’I am certain that what he learnt in the Sport Communication module of the qualification, under the expert guidance of Debbie Derry (NMMU’s deputy director of communication, who lectures this module), in some way contributed to his achieving this magnificent award.”
A total of 22 students graduated from the 2012/13 FIFA/CIES/NMMU programme in Sport Management in September this year. Ibitoye was one of 10 international students from other countries in Africa to do so.
“Congratulations to Ibitoye. We wish him everything of the very best in his future endeavours,’’ said Oosthuizen.
