Manchester City downs Chelsea with emphatic 2-0 win

With 11 matches to be played, City remains in the race for another title

Second-half goals from Yaya Toure and Carlos Tevez earned Manchester City a vital win and put pressure on Chelsea after Sunday’s Premier League clash at the Ethihad Staduim.

The Blues will have themselves to blame having been given a penalty that could have seen them take the lead, but Frank Lampard, in an uncharacteristic manner, failed to convert the spot kick which also denied him his 200th goal for Chelsea.

Sunday’s win is the fourth home victory in a row for Manchester City, who still have a fighting chance to retain the League title having cut the lead of their fierce rivals to 12 points with 11 matches to be played.

Besides netting the opener, Africa footballer of the Year, Yaya Toure, did a Yeoman’s job and was deservedly handed the man-of-the-match award after Sunday’s game.

Yaya got the first goal when Silva held the ball up well in the box, turned well and laid the ball back to him on the left edge of the box.

Toure’s first touch was a delight as it saw him sweep the ball by a few Chelsea defenders.

He then placed a lovely finish into the far bottom corner of the net.

For the second goal it was Aguero who first powered forward but lost the ball on the edge of the box.

The loose ball broke to Silva who slided it across to Tevez. The striker took a long range shot and Ivanovic turns his back on it leaving Cech no chance whatsoever to seal victory.

Meanwhile Shola’s Ameobi Newcastle also secured a 4-2 win over visiting Southampton.
