Be The Change, Be Responsible by Olumadewa Adebusuyi Olutayo

In every man’s life, the decision you make ends up turning back to make you. The decision can either be yes or no, positive or negative but remember it will turn around to make you. Let us all imagine if Nelson Mandela never made that decision to become the change. What would have happened to South Africa today, would there be World Cup? Many ministers travel to organise conferences for the citizens of the country, but  would this be possible if Madiba did not make that decision to change his world some years ago? What South Africans are enjoying today is a result of one man’s decision, Nelson Mandela. In his words he said “At first as a student, I wanted freedom only for myself. The transitory freedoms of being able to stay out at night, read what I pleased where I chose. Later as a young man in Johannesburg, I yearned for the basic and honorable freedom of achieving potentials, of earning my keep, of marrying and having a family- the freedom not to be obstructed in a lawful life. But  I then slowly saw that not only was I not free, but my brothers and sisters were not free …… that is when the hunger for my own freedom became the hunger for the freedom of my people. It was this  desire for the freedom of my people to live their lives with dignity and self respect that animated my life, that transformed a frightened young man into a bold one, that drove  a law- abiding attorney to become a criminal, that turned a family loving husband into a man without home…. I am no more virtuous or self sacrificing than the next man, but I found that I could not even enjoy the poor and limited freedom I was allowed when I knew my people were not free.”

It is our responsibility to model excellence greatness to the world. We must follow the footsteps of Christ; do this for this is the foundation of building a better nation and a better world. We might be able to change everyone but we can start by doing this in our environment, by helping others to discover their assignments. One man you help to attain his purpose in life and fulfil his work in life shows that you have made millions of people fulfil their purpose. You have to ask yourself this question again, is life worth living without a purpose? Sometimes the need around you might be the opportunity for you to discover your assignment, but you are ignoring it.

It was said that a candle loses nothing lighting another candle. With its action it will be easier for its flame to be lighted again in case it goes off. Albert Einstein said “The true value of a human being is determined primarily by the measure and the sense in which he has attained liberation from the self.” Our whole actions and desires are bound with the existence of other human beings. We eat food that others have grown, wear clothes that others have made; live in houses that others have built. The greater part of our knowledge and belief has been communicated to us by other people through the medium of a language which others have created. This is the extent how your neighbour is important in your life. How the beggar you see on the road can be valuable if you decide to abandon the bird eye look and make a decision to become the blessing by taking people to their inheritance in God. This tells us that our whole being is dependent on another. When you help someone to discover his assignment, you are helping yourself because the one that you help is your testimony that God is alive in your life. Doing this is you becoming the change.

Let us be the change we have been praying for.
