APPLICATIONS for the Youth Off the Streets scholarship program is now open, offering 20 scholarships to disadvantaged young people across Australia.
Nominations for the annual national program are open to young people across the country, and will close at 5pm, April 4.
The initiative, developed by Father Chris Riley 10 years ago, celebrates the gifts and strengths of young people who exhibit extraordinary promise, but who lack the personal support networks and resource that would allow them to fulfil their potential.
"Many of our scholarship recipients experience financial barriers or lack traditional support networks and live away from their families," Father Riley said.
"Without this opportunity these young people, who have a desire to achieve their best, struggle to find the avenue to do so.
"We received our highest number of applications to the program last year. We are looking forward to being able to provide over 20 more scholarships this year to young people who really need that level of support to be able to turn their dreams in to realities."
The scholarships include $6000 for resources to help them further their education or training in their area of interest.
Along with financial assistance, Youth Off The Streets will match each scholarship recipient with a mentor for the duration of their scholarship, who will provide support and guidance to help them to achieve the goals set out in their pathway plan.
Nominations can be made by a young person themselves, or by somebody on their behalf.
