4 Ways To Know You are being Called by marshawnevans.com.

For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. (Ephesians 2:10)

Over the last several weeks, I’ve talked about how important it is to be directed in your choices, and not just driven.  Doing so will require that you value significance over success.  It will mean that you are committed to focusing on what you are called to do, not just what you can do.

A common question arose after last week’s column: What You Can Do versus What You’re Called To Do.  Many wanted to know how to decipher between the “could” versus the “should.”  When you’ve reached a crossroad, here are some key questions that you can ask yourself to make sure your chosen path is truly purpose-driven:

1)    What is my GUT feeling? GUT stands for God Uttering Timeout.  When you feel your inner-self wrestling and wandering on a recurring basis, it is time to stop and get still.  You need to spend focused time with God so that you can hear the message that is being sent to you and for you.

2)    Have I Outgrown My Garden? Ask yourself whether you are staying on your current path simply because it feels comfortable.  Life is supposed to be a challenge.  Your best is birthed through the process of being challenged.  Take time to assess whether you’ve outgrown the garden in which you’ve been planted.  All soil is not created equal!  You need to be in the right place to receive the right preparation and access to the right people.  It could be time to uproot and replant in new soil waiting for your arrival.

3)    Am I afraid? If the path you are considering and feel drawn towards does not make sense because it feels bigger than you, then it just might be for you!  God’s plans never fully make sense in the beginning.  If your ability to pursue “it” seems beyond you, pray about it first and foremost.  Realize that God always asks us to operate in expectations, not experiences.  He shows up when we move by faith, not by fear.

4)    Are you being interrupted? You can rest assured that God’s new assignment for you will come when you lest expect it and probably when you’re already busy doing something else.  Recognize that God’s seemingly imperfect timing is indeed perfect. His anointing attaches to His appointing. So no matter what you have planned, remain pliable and prepared to go with God’s flow. Don’t fight it, ride it.

Remember, obedience isn’t about knowing what to do.  It’s about being willing to do what God asks of you regardless of the answer.

Although you may not know exactly what next step to take, make sure you proactively ask for your steps to be ordered.  Step up your prayer time. Invoke the power of declaration by speaking biblical principles and promises over your choices and circumstances. And, make sure you take the day off from worry!  God’s on duty and He has you covered.

Finally, remember that all crossroads should lead you to the cross.  Seek God’s face.  Ask for his guidance.  Let him direct you to the right place.  Operate in and under His grace so that you properly run your race – not just doing the things you can do, but also doing that which you are called to do.
